A lawyer has criticised a social media posting by a man who said that if you’re not in jail you are a rapist.
The comments by Mr Jayalalithaa, who is seeking a second term in the state assembly, were posted on Twitter last week.
They were sent by a user called @jayalalistam, who said he was arrested on November 12, 2013 for a rape in the city of Chennai.
“When you go out with your friends, when you’re drinking, you don’t ask for consent.
You do that with your body,” Mr Jayaprakash said.
Mr Jayaprahya has denied any wrongdoing and said the comments were in jest.
“I was not talking about sex.
It was about the woman’s feelings and I was trying to tell her that she is being violated,” he told reporters.”
The statement that I made was not meant to insult anybody and I am proud to have made that statement.”
Mr Jayalilithaa said he would make a correction if the post was found to have been a threat.
“No, I have never said anything against any woman.
I was not saying that if a woman gets raped, I would rape her again.
I am just saying that a woman should not get raped.
It is not a matter of if, but when,” he said.”
A rape can take place at any time.
I have always been aware of the seriousness of the crime, but there is nothing to justify this statement,” Mr Kayaprakas said.
